Plans for 2023
We are working to expand and develop the section devoted to Coggeshall Abbey which will include a scale model of the abbey buildings as they were in 1538. The surviving buildings and the archaeological evidence from John Gardner’s researches in the 1950s provide enough evidence to develop the model which should be ready for the museum’s opening in April. It is being constructed by experienced Coggeshall model-maker Ian Stock and will allow us to see not only how the abbey was laid out but also its relationship with the surviving abbey buildings, St Nicholas Chapel, the river and the Abbey Mill.
